Storm dumps rains on Caribbean expected to miss US mainland

Tropical Storm Cristobal formed early Sunday in the Atlantic, as the third named storm of the 2014 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

The storm was moving toward the Bahamas after dumping heavy rain on parts of Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, downing trees and power lines. The system was expected to move slowly over the next 36-48 hours, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Forecasters said Cristobal is not expected to impact the U.S. mainland. A tropical storm warning, meanwhile, was issued for the central and southeastern portion of the Bahamas, as well as the Turks and Caicos.
