What you need for your Caribbean getaway
Americans are traveling to the Caribbean more this year than ever before. The Caribbean Tourism Organization reports that tourism in the islands is up by 5.3 percent. With the snowy weather and icy temperatures, it’s not too late to book that last-minute flight to sunny paradise. Here are a few local places to pick up resort gear and those travel essentials.
Travel bags
The first thing you’ll need is a travel bag. A basic black weekender you can carry on your flight is from Briggs Riley. It will cost $179 at Parkers in Rye. Another choice is the lightweight Kipling brand. This year’s new color, blue jay blue, will remind you warmer weather is just weeks away. The price ranges from $119-249.
Swimsuits
You can have your pick of one-piece swimsuits and bikinis at Love by Bella Fiora in Larchmont. The hot color this year for resort wear is cobalt blue. You’ll pay $202 for this bright chunky zipper swimsuit.
For two-piece options, the trend is back to the 1970s: fringe and macramé designs are big this season. Here at Love this style Bia by Vix is their most popular suit this year. The fold-over bikini has an adjustable bottom to fit many different figures. Bikinis start at $150.
Cover-up/dress
When you make it to the beach you’ll need a cover-up or something to wear to lunch or to walk around. This aptly named Island dress by Patagonia works, in a bright warm orange. It’s priced at $79 at Parkers.
Hat
Pick up this funky hat to keep you covered. The brand is Blue Chair Bay and goes with everything. It’s $44.
Pants
Pretty casual tops and cargo pants are a few wardrobe options at Great Stuff. The capri pants are by XCVI and are available in black, white and cream for $114. An easy choice for the beach or lounging.
Tops
A beautiful embroidered white top is perfect for dinner on the beach. It’s made by Sea and a little expensive at $275, but you can wear it when you are back to New York. The casual fun T-shirts are $66 to $108 at Great Stuff.
Cocktails
Cosmos or Margaritas? If you can’t wait to get to your room for some libations you can make your own with the help of truecocktails.com. The non-alcoholic cocktail mix and reusable shaker are perfect for travel. You can buy these at Parkers for $12.
