Carnival Corp. Set To Start Using Dominican Republic Port in October

Cunard and PO Cruises would be amongst 6 Carnival Corp. brands to begin calling on a $85 million fresh new port, which is developed in the Dominican Republic by the company.

The port namely Amber Cove, a fractional filming location for the movie Jurassic Park will start accommodating ships from later this October. The new port is situated at north coast of Dominican Republic near Puerto Plata. This new port is likely to handle over 250,000 cruise passengers in its initial year and will generate about 440 jobs locally.

The port will have an entertainment area containing a swimming pool, green spaces and splash zone and will also offer 40 shore trips.

The port is scheduled to call Cunard’s Queen Mary, PO Cruises Azura, AIDA Cruises’ AIDAvita, Costa Cruises’ Costa Delizosa and Holland America Line’s Eurodam on November 22, December 5, December 11, December 31 and January 19 respectively.

Carnival Corp (NYSE:CCL). settled the project with Rannik family of Group B and R. in the starting year; the facility is likely to have over 250,000 guests.

Further ships from the Carnival Corp brands are in-line in winter season including Splendor, Valor, Carnival Cruise Line’s Fantasy, Sunshine, Conquest and Hal’s Nieuw Amsterdam.

Francisco Javier, Director Dominican Republic Tourism said, “The building of the port on Amber Cove has been an unbelievable project for the whole country, and also for Caribbean region all together. The British multinational cruise company Carnival Corporations investment in the port at Amber Coast has brought much advantage to the economy as a whole, and we are hopeful that the efforts and investment will have a positive long-term impact on the economy”.

Senior Vice President at Carnival Corporation global port destination, Mr. Giora Israel said, “There are numerous available markets that are progressively becoming very important for the cruise industry, but now the Caribbean is the only biggest share of our business.”

According to the spokesperson, they are continuously seeking new ways for their customers to love their experience at cruise and for them it is thrilling to enhance new destinations to their routes, particularly in Caribbean where most of the passengers went before.

He further added: “We believe that our passengers will enjoy visiting the Amber Cove, which we are confident will become a most popular port for our guests. The Amber Cove destination is simply available, it will provide the passengers a suitable gateway to the Puerto Plata region, which is mighty. And most important the port will allow us to provide the guests a new choice in the Caribbean routes.”
