Norwegian Cruise Line cuts jobs in corporate restructuring

Norwegian
Cruise Line Holdings implemented a restructuring that resulted in the elimination
of some jobs at the Miami headquarters office.

One source
who knew of the job cuts prior to their announcement put the number at around
200. Norwegian employed 1,049 people in the Miami area in 2014, according to
the Beacon Council, a private-public economic development agency in Miami-Dade
County.

Norwegian
declined to say how many people were affected, but released a statement.

“The recent
acquisition of Prestige Cruise Holdings has provided the opportunity to review
our organizational structure. The company has implemented an organization
designed to take advantage of synergies between the three brands and position
the company for future growth,” the statement said.

“The new structure maintains dedicated leadership
and support for each of the individual brands, ensuring brand distinction and
the highest quality guest experience, while finding efficiencies and leveraging
best practices across the company.”

Norwegian in November completed a $3.03 billion
acquisition of Prestige, parent to Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Oceania
Cruises. In January, Prestige CEO Frank Del Rio became president and CEO of
Norwegian, succeeding Kevin Sheehan in that role. Both companies are
headquartered in Miami with offices a few miles from each other.

Among the corporate jobs that were eliminated was
that of AnneMarie Mathews, vice president of public relations.
