The 12-night round-trip from Venice starts at £799 cruise-only for adults, and the £1 child’s fare is available for up to two children aged 17 and under sharing their parents’ cabin.

The cruise on Holland America Line’s ms Nieuw Amsterdam leaves Venice on August 20 heading for Greece and Turkey before returning
to Italy.

Passengers can book their own flights or through Holland America Line, with adults’ fly-cruise prices starting from £1,199 for flights from London.

Regional departures are also available.

After sailing past St Mark’s Square and gondolas tied up at The Doge’s Palace in Venice, the ship will call at Katakolon in Greece.

Excursions to Olympia are available from this tiny town, which has a sandy beach – although better beaches are a bus ride away.
