G Adventures expands river cruise options
For 2016, G Adventures
will offer cruises on the Mekong, Ganges and Amazon rivers plus the inland
waterways of France’s Burgundy region.
G Adventures had already
been offering Peruvian Amazon sailings on the 30-passenger Amatista that the
company includes on two Peru itineraries. But the Mekong, Ganges and Burgundy
cruises will be new for 2016.
“The riverboat industry
without a doubt is the fastest-growing industry within the travel industry
right now. Riverboat cruising is off the charts,” said Bruce Poon Tip, founder
of G Adventures.
In Burgundy, G
Adventures will offer an eight-day itinerary that begins with one pre-cruise
night in Lyon, France, on the 24-passenger Danielle, a canal barge that is
being launched by French river cruise line CroisiEurope in 2016.
The Danielle
will sail along the Briare Canal between Burgundy and the Loire Valley. G
Adventures will have its own guides and excursions during the sailing, which
will include activities such as biking, hiking and active walks along the way.
The Burgundy cruises start at $1,999 per person.
On the Mekong, G
Adventures will charter the 28-passenger Toum Tiu II, a vessel owned by
CFM River Cruises. G Adventures will offer eight-day cruises from Siem Reap, Cambodia, to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam,
with cruise prices starting at $1,799 per person. A similar 10-day itinerary
includes an overnight stay in Siem Reap and Ho Chi Minh City.
On India’s
Ganges River, the 24-passenger Varuna will sail eight-day cruises between Patna and Farakka or nine-day sailings between Farakka and
Kolkata. Ganges cruises start at $1,999 per person.
Poon Tip emphasized that
the G Adventures’ river cruising is focused on smaller vessels and
that there will be ample opportunities for passengers to get off the ship and
explore in small groups led by G Adventures guides.
