Caribbean Airlines to discontinue London route

Caribbean Airlines is terminating its Trinidad-London Gatwick route on Jan. 10. The carrier
launched the three weekly flights in June 2012.

At the same time, the carrier is retiring its two
leased 767s that serve the London route to reduce operating costs and to focus
on its North American routes.

“This has not been an easy decision, since the
airline’s customers have loyally supported the London service, especially in
the peak periods. Unfortunately, the costs associated with maintaining the 767
operation has led Caribbean Airlines to the decision of simplifying its fleet
and focusing its limited resources to build connectivity in the North American
and Caribbean markets,” the carrier said in a statement on its website.

The carrier’s U.S. and Canadian gateways include
New York JFK, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Toronto. Within the
Caribbean, Caribbean Airlines serves Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Maarten, Suriname, Tobago
and Trinidad.
