Both you and your new spouse should decide together on honeymoon choices. Check with other couples about their specific trips to get ideas and suggestions, but don’t let them talk you into taking their trip.

Be specific about your own individual preferences. Just as importantly, decide on a budget and stick to it.

Tend details early. You want to enjoy the wedding’s images keen in your memory.

MAKING ARRANGEMENTS

■ Discuss budget.

■ Once you’ve decided, book ahead, including extras, like spa appointments, etc. Don’t over-schedule, especially the first few days.

■ Research the area as much as possible. Make a tentative itinerary of what you might do, where to go and what to see.

■ Check the details, such as hidden charges and guarantees, and find out if you can get a refund if you need to change your dates.

■ Splurge and do at least one thing that is unique and different.
