Tsim Sha Tsui Hotels Boast Location, Location, Location For New Year's in Hong Kong
The bustling shopping, dining and entertainment district of Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon, on the opposite side of Victoria Harbour from Hong Kong Island, is a thriving tourist enclave where the streets are chock-a-block with all manner of shops, restaurants and glitzy department stores.
For shoppers, Tsim Sha Tsui has been described as a ‘giant world bazaar’ of Bollywood-themed memorabilia, Shanghainese tailors, sweet-talking restaurant touts, gorgeous gems and jewellery, flashy cameras, Asian street label boutiques and plush malls.
Tsim Sha Tsui is home to six of the attractions on the ‘Top 10 Hong Kong Attractions’ list that features on the Hong Kong Tourism Board website. These are the Ladies’ Market, Temple Street Night Market, Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, Sik Sik Yuen Wong Tai Sin Temple and the Clock Tower; the Avenue of Stars is now closed for repair and improvement works which are expected to be completed at the end of 2018.
When it comes to accommodation, some of the leading lifestyle-oriented design hotels in Hong Kong are to be found in Tsim Sha Tsui. The arrival in recent years of these trendy properties has helped add a stylish new edge to what was traditionally seen as Hong Kong’s ‘other’ commercial, shopping and dining centre to that on Hong Kong Island.
Prominent among these ultra hip Tsim Sha Tsui hotels is Residence G Hong Kong (by Hotel G) on Austin Ave, which enjoys a prime location within walking distance of the shopping and entertainment core of Nathan Road and the MTR (Mass Transit Railway). With a design and character inspired by the rhythms of metropolitan Hong Kong, this chic lifestyle hotel of 43 guestrooms offers guests a vibrant atmosphere of understated glamour and cutting edge, in-vogue style.
Coming in the categories of Good, Greater and Greatest, the guestrooms are a defining element of the Residence G Hong Kong (by Hotel G) experience. Stylishly modern and inspirationally functional with such appointments as high speed wireless internet, I-Pod docking station and plasma TV, they range from 330 sq ft deluxe rooms to a 1,147 sq ft loft-style penthouse.
Like the Residence G, many of the hotels in Tsim Sha Tsui are a comfortable walk from an MTR station. Considered one of the best public transport systems anywhere in the world, the MTR provides convenient and affordable travel around much of Hong Kong.
The Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade that stretches along the harbourside from the Clock Tower to Hung Hom is also a comfortable walk from many a Tsim Sha Tsui hotel. This is a popular location from which to watch the New Year countdown fireworks over Victoria Harbour and it’s advised to head here earlier rather than later on the day to secure a viewing spot, as the crowds of revelers will soon pack the area.
With the hotels in Tsim Sha Tsui being close by, this also presents the option of walking back from the harbourside after the celebrations, at a time when taxis will be in extremely high demand and the MTR considerably busy.
On the other side of Victoria Harbour, the Central, Wan Chai and Causeway Bay areas of Hong Kong Island also offer great vantage points to take in the New Year fireworks extravaganza.
Booking a cruise on the harbour itself is another option for a truly memorable New Year’s in Hong Kong.
