Would YOU take a cruise back in time? Exhibit takes tourists through ‘golden age’

Exhibits that evoke the romance of sea travel include many rarely seen items that form the city’s maritime collection, such as ship models, posters, photographs and menu cards and souvenirs from the great liners.

Furniture and other items from famous ships such as Mauretania, Queen Mary and QE2 – which all had Southampton as a home port – can also be seen.

And there are insights into the lives of the people who travelled and worked onboard, with letters and diaries on show plus oral history interviews.

Younger visitors may also enjoy some of the hands-on activities, such as dressing up as a captain or steward.

“This fantastic new exhibition at SeaCity Museum, which uses our own extensive maritime collection, will show how the city’s relationship with the ocean liner began and then blossomed in the early 20th century, harking back to a time of glamour and romance,” says Councillor Satvir Kaur, Cabinet member for Communities, Culture and Leisure at Southampton City Council.
