Florida man attempts to travel the Caribbean in an inflatable bubble – WILX
A Florida man who attempted to travel the Caribbean in an inflatable bubble had his trip deflated by the coast guard.
Ultra marathoner Ray Baluchi agreed to let the coast guard rescue him Sunday and went aboard a coast guard cutter with his ‘hydro bubble’.
He had originally set out to complete a 35-hundred mile trek through the Caribbean. The coast guard looked at his plan and determined that it would be unsafe, but the ultra marathoner departed from the coast anyway.
Baluchi could be fined up to 40-thousand dollars for violating their order.
He had attempted a similar journey in October of 2014, that journey ended in a similiar way. The coast guard rescued Baluchi 70 miles off the coast of St. Augustine Florida.
The 2014 rescue cost authorities more than 140-thousand dollars.
Baluchi’s publicist says the 44 year old is back in Florida figuring out when he’ll make another attempt.
