Taiwanese man on honeymoon killed by falling tree in Kenya

Johannesburg, South Africa, July 4 (CNA) A newly married Taiwanese man died in an accident last weekend when a tree fell on the jeep in which he and wife were traveling during their honeymoon in Kenya.

The man, identified as 30-year-old Juan Chun-hui (阮俊輝), was killed on the spot, while his wife Chen Po-ting (陳柏廷), 29, was injured and has been hospitalized, according to Taiwan’s representative office in South Africa.

The driver of the jeep was also injured, according to reports which however did not identify the nationality of the person.

Citing information provided by eyewitnesses, the office said the newly married couple was leaving Lake Nakuru National Park at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday to return to their hotel when a tree toppled suddenly and stuck the jeep in which they were traveling.

Taiwan’s representative to South Africa John C. Chen (陳忠) and police officer Chen Yi-ming (陳逸明), who were both on an official visit to Nairobi, immediately rushed to the scene of the accident some 200 kilometers away, the office said.

They were making arrangements with the authorities in Nakuru to send the injured woman to Nairobi as soon as possible to receive better treatment, according to the office.

The couple reportedly arrived in Kenya July 1 on a six-day honeymoon visit and was scheduled to travel to Tanzania afterwards.
