Jordan Peele Teaches Us All the Importance of Caring for Your Passport
Comedian Jordan Peele learned the hard way that even a slightly damaged passport can spell trouble for international travel.
The comedian wasn’t allowed to board his flight from Los Angeles to London after a TSA agent said his passport was too damaged to fly.
“Big shout out to the LAX employee who barred my husband from getting on our flight (our honeymoon) bc his passport page was a little worn,” comedian Chelsea Peretti, Peele’s wife, wrote in a tweet she later deleted. “Solo honeymoon should be cool too!”
While we don’t know how damaged Peele’s passport really was, the U.S. Department of State advises travelers to replace a passport if it has “water damage, a significant tear, unofficial markings on the data page, missing visa pages (torn out), a hole punch, or other injuries.”
To prevent damage, consider using a passport cover and keep your passport in a dry, secure place when you’re not traveling. On the road, keep it in a plastic bag to prevent it from getting wet.
Ultimately, Peretti flew to England by herself and said she was awaiting Peele to join her. “Who’s in London? Wanna grab a jacket potato and talk #Brexit for 5 hours? Or cud talk about jam or something. The TSA…etc,” she posted.
