Cruise ships forego calls in Nice

Calls by at
least two cruise ships to the French port of Nice have been canceled following Thursday’s truck massacre.

Royal
Caribbean International had scheduled its Navigator of the Seas to call on July
15, and Celebrity Cruises was to call the following day with the Celebrity
Constellation. Both ships will spend the day at sea instead.

Royal
Caribbean Cruises Ltd., which operates both brands, said in a statement that
the decision was made after a review of available information and a consultation
with its Miami-based global security team. It did not say if the decision was
made because of disruptive conditions in Nice or because of ongoing security
concerns.

“We will continue to closely
monitor the situation in France and will contact guests or their travel agents
should we make any additional changes to upcoming itineraries. Whether or
not we call to Nice will always be driven by our concern for the safety and
well-being of our guests and crew members,” the statement said.
