The Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) announced this week that for the second-straight year October will be “Cruise Travel Professional Month.”
The CLIA reported the U.S. Senate has unanimously passed a resolution designating October 2016 Cruise Travel Professional Month. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) sponsored the resolution, while co-sponsors included Senators Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Bill Nelson (D-FL) and Dan Sullivan (R-AK).
In a statement, CLIA CEO and president Cindy D’Aoust expressed gratitude toward the Senators for “recognizing the important contributions of travel agents and cruising to the U.S. economy.”

Cruise Travel Professional Month will coincide with Plan a Cruise Month in October 2016, when travel agents, cruise lines and other cruise industry partners will showcase various cruise vacations and provide travelers with additional incentives to book a cruise.
“National Plan a Cruise Month puts cruise vacations in the spotlight, helping travelers discover all the incredible experiences that a cruise vacation offers,” D’Aoust said in a statement ahead of last year’s month-long event. “Today there are more cruise vacation options than ever before, ranging from ocean and river cruising to yachting and paddlewheeler cruises.”
The CLIA revealed that Plan a Cruise Month activities in October of last year resulted in 250 broadcast segments and more than 83 million social media impressions. Therefore, the industry can hopefully look forward to another productive month when Cruise Travel Professional Month rolls around again in 2016.
