WINN FM – Canada Upgrades Travel Advisories To Several …
St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): The Canadian government has updated travel advisories to some 20 Caribbean countries including Jamaica and St. Lucia.
As of August 1, 2016, Canada is warning its nationals to exercise a high degree of caution when travelling to Jamaica due to the high level of violent crime.
According to the advisory, “violent crime, including armed robbery and murder, is a problem in large cities, particularly in Kingston, Spanish Town and Montego Bay. Despite the presence of police in major urban areas, drug- and gang-related violence, including shootings, continues to be a significant problem”.
With regard St. Lucia, travelers are advised to exercise a high degree of caution due to limited medical resources, generally poor road conditions, unreliable public transportation, and moderate crime rates.
As the 2016 Olympic curtains get ready to go up in Brazil, Canada is warning its citizens traveling to the South American country to exercise a high degree of caution due to high crime rates and regular incidents of gang-related and other violence in urban areas.
Travel advisories were also updated for Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Haiti, and several Latin American countries.
The advisory for St. Kitts and Nevis remains the same, where Canadian travelers are being urged to exercise normal security precautions as petty crimes, robberies and assaults occur.
