Are "Tiny-Moons" the New "Mini-Moons"?

Now, more than ever, wedded bliss comes at a cost. Ceremony ($), reception ($$), honeymoon ($$$$)…the list goes on when it comes to budgeting for your Big Day and Happily Ever After. So it makes sense that a couple of years ago newlyweds starting turning to “mini-moons,” a sort of mini vacation before committing to a larger honeymoon down the road. But the newest trend for 2016 may just take the (multiple-tiered) cake: tiny-moons. While mini-moons may go for a couple of days and generally mean a less extravagant trip, tiny-moons take it one step further—the idea is to take a day or two over the weekend in the city you got married in or the city you live in to “get away” without really getting away at all.

“We’ve noticed a growing trend of newlyweds getting married in the city who are wanting just a night or two to unwind, relax, and reflect on their weddings in a nearby location without the hassle of faraway travels,” says Rob Arthur, general manager of The Ivy Hotel in Baltimore, MD. “The Ivy offers a perfect retreat for just married couples who may be saving their time off for the following calendar year for a lengthier honeymoon, and we’ve seen at least three tiny-moon stays in the past two months alone, which prompted our tiny-moon package.” (FWIW, The Ivy’s Tiny-Moon package features full breakfast in bed, a 3-course dinner, a couples massage, and a city tour. Not too shabby.)

Thinking about taking your own tiny-moon getaway? It helps to inquire about special packages (like the one at The Ivy) at hotels—and don’t be shy. A lot of hotels are happy to help plan a tiny-moon vacation perfect for you (and your partner). Don’t forget to check out Airbnb for easy (and cheap) rentals or HotelTonight for great (last-minute) deals. Then book it, stay, and get ready for some much-needed relaxation.
