“Rhythm And Cruise” Floating Concerts Rock Royal Caribbean’s Boat

FLORIDA, USA, Friday April 8, 2017 – If you like the idea of vintage rock on the high seas of the Caribbean, you’ll dig the latest in a relatively new travel option that mixes fans with bands in a swinging ocean-going music festival.

According to Larry Morand of On The Blue, which has been running music cruises for the past five years, the huge success of the trips is a phenomenon.

“In the early days we had to work really hard to persuade top bands that a rock cruise would be a good idea – now they’re coming to us asking to join in,” he said.

“Being on a cruise ship with your musical hero is like having the best Backstage Pass ever,” he added.

Morand’s music cruises include “Monsters of Rock” and “Cruise to the Edge”. A recent sailing of the latter comprised a four-night return cruise from Tampa, Florida to Cozumel, Mexico on board Royal Caribbean’s 2,000-passenger Brilliance of the Seas.

Performers included some of the biggest names in progressive rock: Yes; John Lodge of the Moody Blues; Steve Hackett, formerly of Genesis; Patrick Moraz, who had played keyboards for both Yes and Moody Blues; Focus; and Curved Air.

Other special features of the cruise included mixing, mingling and participating in question and answer sessions with the entertainers, as well as the opportunity to sit in and jam with some of the bands. Rocking the boat was mandatory.

Other big ship entertainers in recent times have included the likes of James Taylor; Crosby, Stills and Nash; Def Leppard; and Fatboy Slim.

Another “Cruise To The Edge” is set to depart Tampa, Florida next February, with acts scheduled to appear including Jethro Tull, Martin Barre, Marillion and Saga.

The next Moody Blues’ cruise departs from Miami and takes in George Town, Grand Cayman and Cozumel, Mexico over five nights. The “Nights In White Satin” hitmakers will be joined by acts including The Zombies and The Orchestra, which features former members of the Electric Light Orchestra. The party gets underway next January.
