Is There Really a “Best” Time or Way to Book Your Travel?
These days, a quick Google search for flights and hotels will bring on endless pop-ups, sneaky ads, and an overwhelming amount of information. (They’ll even magically find their way into your social media browsing!) But whether you and your soon-to-be spouse are first time travelers or jet-setting vets, you’ve likely also heard of ways, times, and days, that it’s “better” or “cheaper” to book your honeymoon.
Still wondering how exactly to tackle your travel reservations? Fear not – we got advice from the experts to help you decide when to book your honeymoon.
The Earlier, The Better?
Erina Pindar, Managing Director at SmartFlyer, suggests that, “as soon as you know that you definitely want to go somewhere, that is the best time to book. The sooner you start, the better your options would be, and you’ll get your pick at the exact views and room categories you want.” Plus, she adds, “the sooner you book, the sooner you can start shopping for your travel outfits!” (Yes, please!)
First Things First
While your head may be spinning with travel details, activities, restaurants and more, you definitely need to book your airfare and hotel(s) first. “Airfare gets you to your destination, and hotels ensure that you will have a place to lay your head,” Pindar explains. As for securing these reservations, “make sure you book with a travel advisor that can get you added value like complimentary breakfast, resort/hotel credit, or even welcome amenities.” Once you’ve got those locked down, the fun details can follow.
Off Peak Perks
You may have heard this one before, and Pindar confirms that, “If you are traveling on ‘off’ days, Tuesdays or Wednesdays, or off seasons, you generally can get better fares and hotel rates, as not many people are traveling.” Just keep in mind that many luxury properties who are firm on pricing typically remain consistent in their costs – but you never know!
Leave it to the Experts
Instead of having to worry about the timing and details of your trip, it’s always a good idea to leave it to the experts. For starters, Pindar explains that those who fly in front of the plane, especially on international flights, should be working with an agent. “Travel agents who specialize in air travel, like we do, have access to net fares, this means discounted fares which should result in significant savings for the travelers.”
When it comes to hotels and resorts, experts might also, “have access to complimentary upgrades at the time of booking, or complimentary nights which in the end will save you more money.” Putting yourself in the hands of a great expert or agent can make all the difference.
