New river cruise line to have black ships
Millennial-focused river cruise line U by Uniworld has
unveiled renderings of its ships, which will have all-black exteriors, as Uniworld had hinted previously. The new
line’s first sailings will depart in April.
Announced earlier this year by Uniworld Boutique River
Cruise Collection, the new line features lower-priced sailings than the company’s
luxury line. U’s guests will pay $250 per day on average, compared with $330
per day for Uniworld Boutique’s lowest-priced off-season cruise.
U’s product is tailored for travelers ages 21 to 45 with
fewer inclusions than its higher-priced sister line.
The line will consist of two vessels. The A (formerly
Uniworld’s River Ambassador), wil sail the Danube, Main and Rhine rivers. The
B, formerly Uniworld’s River Baroness, will sail on France’s Seine River. Both
will launch on April 14.
The vessels will be renovated to feature a main lounge, a
rooftop lounge, a gym, a coffee bar and two dining establishments — a main
restaurant and a rooftop venue.
There will be three categories of staterooms ranging from “I
just need a comfortable place to sleep and stash my stuff” to “I’m
going all out in a suite,” according to the U by Uniworld website. For
solo travelers, there will be single rooms and the cheaper option of bunking
with another passenger.
An interior rendering shows a stateroom on The B featuring
clean lines and decor, crisp white linens and a French balcony.
U by Uniworld sailings include two meals each day (mostly
breakfasts and dinners) and one or two excursions each day. There will be
optional excursions offered each day for an additional charge.
Seine cruises will include a wine tasting, Danube sailings
will include a mixology class, and all sailings will feature a party hosted by
a local DJ.
