BVI entry requirements include three-phase Covid testing

The British Virgin Islands outlined the steps it will take to admit international visitors when it reopens its borders Dec. 1.

“The protocols are tailored to allow visitors to experience a safe vacation by deploying technology, implementing strict testing and comprehensive procedures for tourism industry operations and accommodation units,” said Andrew Fahie, the BVI’s premier and minister of finance.

Prospective travelers must register on the online BVI Gateway portal at at least 48 hours prior to departure to obtain the Traveller Authorization Certificate. The portal will be live on Nov. 2.

Visitors must also have proof of a negative PCR test taken within five days of departure and proof of medical insurance that includes coverage for Covid-19.

Tourists are required to take a series of Covid tests once they’re on the islands, and for each test the visitor will be charged $100. At the new Welcome Center in the BVI airport, visitors will have a health screening and a second PCR test, and they must download a contact tracing app, which costs $150.

Approved transportation will shuttle visitors to their Gold Seal Certified accommodations, where they will quarantine for four days. On the fourth day they must take another PCR test that, if negative, will allow them to travel to certain designated locations.

On Day 8 visitors will have a third PCR test; if that test is negative they are free to move about the islands without restriction; however, they must have their mobile phone with them and keep the tracing app active.
