Mr and Mrs White-Christmas flown to Antigua by Virgin Atlantic for honeymoon

Their original plans to get married in July were postponed due to the pandemic.

Childhood sweethearts, full-time business student Tilly and supermarket assistant Kieran, married in a Covid-secure ceremony, performed beside the Great Bath with a reception for 15 guests on the picturesque Roman Baths’ Terrace.

The couple, who live in Bridport, then swapped the grey skies of west Dorset for the white sands of Antigua this month, flying out and returning home before the latest travel restrictions were announced.

Virgin Atlantic flew the White-Christmas family on the honeymoon the pandemic denied them, to say thank you for bringing a smile to the nation during what has been a tough year for many.

Tilly White-Christmas said: “We couldn’t believe it when Virgin Atlantic told us they were taking us away on our honeymoon. After a crazy year, we’re so happy our wedding and the fact we’re the only White-Christmas’, as far as we know, brought a glimpse of joy to the nation.”

Kieran White-Christmas added: “We had the best time celebrating in Antigua – we honestly didn’t think we’d make it away on a honeymoon this year so this is the best Christmas present we could have wished for – and just before these tough new restrictions.”

They stayed at Sandals Grande Antigua Resort and Spa and enjoyed some of the Caribbean island’s most popular activities, visiting Shirley Heights scenic lookout to kayaking and sailing in the crystal-clear Caribbean waters. The holiday was paid for by the company.

A spokesman for Virgin Atlantic said: “2020 has been tough for so many but we are all grateful to those that brought us a much-needed smile.

“When we read about the White-Christmas wedding, we wanted to say thank you by sending them on the dream honeymoon they missed out on due to the pandemic and where better than the idyllic island of Antigua? Thankfully Mr and Mrs White-Christmas were able to enjoy their trip, safely, before the latest restrictions were announced.”
