The Best Kind of Lodging for a Ski Vacation

Since a ski trip requires such precise conditions in order to be successful, many people are just happy to be there and don’t give a second thought to lodging.  A good amount of snow, cool weather and a suitable mountain are more than enough to make many people jump for joy.  Of course, not everyone is the same and there are some who like the overall experience, which includes lodging, food and all the rest.  After a long day of going up and down the hill, a lot of people have a pretty particular vision of where they want to go unwind for their evenings.

The best kind of lodging for a ski vacation is naturally going to vary depending on each specific person’s likes and dislikes.  Some might be more than content with a standard hotel room somewhere in town, while others may feel they need a luxury condo right on the mountain.  Like many things in life where the word “best” is used, there really is no right answer.  If you can find a lodging that makes you comfortable at night and enhances your ski trip, then you’ve found the best one for you.  If it also happens to fit within your budget or is included in your ski package, even better.

Some skiers will accept no less than a ski in ski out lodging from the minute they get into town until they head back to the airport.  Ski in ski out accommodations refer to a hotel, condo or other vacation rental that’s right on the side of the mountain.  With this type of lodging you literally have instant access to the hill all the time.  This cuts way down on wait times and transportation to the hill each day.  You can also stay out there longer, because you can essentially ski right back to your room.  For some people who have the money and love to ski that much, a ski in ski out place is the only way to go.

A lot of skiers wouldn’t even consider a ski in ski out lodging, as they’ll think it would be far too expensive.  It’s true that staying right on the mountain will cost more than other choices, but you also have to factor in the money you’ll save on transportation, and on being able to ski back to your room for meals.  If you’re staying somewhere in town, you will likely have to buy your meals at restaurants, which will add to your overall expenses.

The best lodging for a ski trip certainly depends on a bunch of factors, but the best way to narrow it down is to ask questions.  When you book your trip, ask about ski in ski out options, as well as all the other options that are available.  The most important part of a ski trip is the skiing, so as long as you can find a place to stay that’s going to keep the skiing accessible and fun, you’re on the right track.
