Peru witnesses 120% year-on-year growth from India in 2012

Despite being a relatively smaller destination in South America, Peru has witnessed a significant 120 per cent year-on-year growth from the Indian market in 2012 as compared to the previous year. This information was revealed by Sammy Niego, Managing Director, Condor Travel, a Peru-based DMC. Seeing the growing impetus and potential of Peru as a tourist destination for Indians, Condor Travel in association with its India Representative, Knack Marketing, has designed honeymoon and leisure itineraries under its dedicated division, Infinity, for Indian travellers.

Speaking about the potential of the Indian market, Niego said, “Condor Travel has always been interested in the high-potential Indian market and Peru witnessed a year-on-year growth of 120 per cent in Indian travellers in 2012 as compared to 2011, with around 4,165 Indians visiting the country last year. We have introduced special itineraries to promote Peru as a preferred destination for leisure and honeymoon as Indian travellers are constantly looking for new and exotic destinations. Having set up office in India, we are now well aware of the travelling habits and preferences of the Indian traveller, and know that they prefer visiting a combination of few countries rather than just visiting one. To make itineraries more exiting we have developed very interesting combinations that will appeal to the Indian traveller depending on their interests and duration of stay.

Peru offers a diverse range of options and Indian travellers like the country for its folklore, culture and shopping. “Our new itineraries showcase Peru’s attractions as a leisure and honeymoon destination abound with a multitude of focus attractions for Indian travellers. One can enjoy the desert, beaches, the Amazon jungle teeming with adventure, the Andes,  the Inca remains, Cusco and Machu Picchu, the Titicaca Lake, the enigmatic Nazca Lines, and  picturesque unique towns, which add to Peru’s overall charm,â€ added Niego.

Commenting on the travel segments from India market that are seen visiting Peru, Niego said, “Most of our travellers from India are high-end leisure travellers and travel with families or in small groups. We also see a lot of experiential travellers who like to explore the region and are interested in sampling Peru’s local attractions, gastronomy, shopping, adventure activities and culture.â€
