Kristi Lou Mealey, 61, of Kindersley, Saskatchewan, formerly of Darien, passed away on Sunday, June 30th, after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Madison, WI, on May 27, 1952, to Phil (C.P.) and Fran Johnson and spent her childhood in Darien, where she graduated from Delavan-Darien High School in 1971. She was a member of Job’s daughters and excelled at music, specifically clarinet. After graduation, Kris attended UW-Stevens Point; and, then, transferred to UW-Whitewater, majoring in Business Education. There her romance with fellow clarinetist, Steve Mealey, grew and they were married Aug. 24, 1975. Steve was offered a Band Director’s position in Kindersley, for the following school year and they spent their honeymoon traveling and settling in Canada. In addition to being Steve’s assistant on countless performances, Kris used her business expertise in the travel agency, hospital office, coop, tax preparation and most recently insurance sales and licensing businesses of Kindersley. She loved music, food and cooking, flowers, birds and especially traveling.

Kris is survived by her husband, Steve; her mother, Fran Johnson of Darien; her brothers: Phil (Kathleen) of Jackson, WI, Jay of Delavan, WI, and Craig (Robin) of Darien, WI; her sister, Jennifer Ludowise; AFS Sister, IngaThorsell of Sweden; numerous nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews; and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her father, Phil Johnson; brother-in-law, Jack Ludowise; and sister-in-law, Chris Johnson.

A celebration of Kris’ life was held Wednesday, July 17th, in Kindersley, and a family remembrance will be held in Darien. Memorials were made to the Palliative Care Suite at the Kindersley Hospital.
