Crystal Cruises to introduce hypoallergenic cabins

Crystal Cruises is introducing the cruise industry’s first hypoallergenic rooms.

The cruise line has partnered with PURE, a company that says it uses a seven-step purification process to eliminate 99% of pollutants in a room.

PURE has partners in the hotel industry, including Hilton and Hyatt.

There will be 70 hypoallergenic staterooms (deluxe verandah accommodations) on the Crystal Serenity after it comes out of drydock in November.

Jack Anderson, Crystal’s senior vice president of marketing and sales, said the cruise line’s research shows that 62% of allergy sufferers would be willing to pay a premium for an allergy-friendly environment.

In January, Crystal will reduce smoking on ships, not allowing smoking in staterooms and on balconies. It will permit smoking in limited areas.
