ST JOHN’S, Antigua, Friday September 20, 2013 – Antigua and Barbuda has added another feather to its cap with its recognition as the Caribbean’s Leading Honeymoon Destination at the 20th anniversary of the World Travel Awards Caribbean and The Americas gala ceremony on Saturday.
Known as the “Oscars” of the travel industry, the prestigious event rewards excellent performance throughout various areas of the world travel and tourism industry.
Winning the WTA for the Caribbean’s Leading Honeymoon Destination automatically affords Antigua and Barbuda the opportunity to be nominated within the same category at the WTA Global Awards.
Commenting on the honour, Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation John Maginley said: “After years of cultivating our wedding and honeymoon market it is indeed an honour to be recognised by an organization like the World Travel Awards as the ‘Caribbean’s Leading Honeymoon Destination,’ especially since the selection is made by members of the travel trade and consumers.
“We are excited to receive this top accolade; however, I would like to recognize the hard work and dedication of our hotels, tourism partners and all workers in the hospitality industry that without their efforts this achievement would not be possible. We intend through continued strategic marketing and improvements to our tourism product, to continually enhance the visitor experience,” he added.
The twin-island state has also received accolades as one of the Caribbean’s top destinations for weddings and honeymoons from Brides Magazine and About.com. The Huffington Post recently cited Antigua and Barbuda as one of the world’s top five honeymoon destinations.
The destination’s easy wedding requirements let couples tie the nuptial knot within 24 hours of arriving in the country.
There are no residency requirements and the paperwork to obtain a marriage licence is virtually hassle-free. A couple can have a same-day destination wedding with numerous options available for both the wedding and honeymoon. Click here to receive free news bulletins via email from Caribbean360.
