Royal Princess cruise ends early

Princess Cruises said the new Royal Princess suffered a blackout on Sept. 22 while cruising between Mykonos and Naples. After an assessment, Princess decided to end the cruise four days early.

The 12-day Mediterranean cruise will end in Naples, with 3,594 passengers expected to overnight Tuesday on the ship and disembark on Sept. 25. They will receive a full refund and a 25% cruise credit.

The ship will then proceed to Barcelona, where the Royal Princess’ next cruise is scheduled to depart Sept. 27. Princess said the impact of repairs on that cruise is not yet known.

According to reports, Royal Princess lost power for about four hours on Sunday afternoon. Emergency generators provided essential services during that time.

Royal Princess, which was built by Italy’s Fincantieri shipyard, was delivered in June and is the newest ship in the Princess fleet.
