Reservable mini-cabs are on the rise in Paris, much to the chagrin of 18,000 Parisian taxi drivers. Until recent years, the taxi lobby in Paris fought against allowing minicabs in the city. Now, with the “tourist vehicles with chauffeurs,” or VTCs, gaining business, taxi unions want the government to impose a 15-minute delay between reserving a mini-cab and the time it arrives. VTCs work on reservations only and can’t be hailed in the street, increasing competition and tension among taxi and mini-cab drivers.
