Indian Ocean most popular honeymoon destination

The Indian Ocean is the most popular honeymoon destination among British couples, it has been revealed.  

Islands such as the Maldives, Mauritius and Sri Lanka strike a chord with honeymooners keen to sample some luxury and isolation. The white-sand beaches, clear blue waters and spectacular sunsets also probably have something to do with it. 

Other common places to book a honeymoon are the Caribbean, Thailand, the USA and Italy, according to ABTA Wedding Specialists. 

The USA is not just popular with loved-up couples. ONS Travel Trends figures from 2012 show it was the joint third most popular destination among all British holidaymakers level with Italy and behind only France and Spain, which topped the charts with 9.8m visitors. 

European destinations – Croatia, Cyprus, Greece and Italy – are also the most popular foreign locations to get married in, ahead of the Caribbean, the USA, the Indian Ocean and Africa.
