Travel agents ready for big cruise ship
Local travel agents are getting ready to welcome and entertain the visit of more than 1500 tourists on board the cruise liner MS Amsterdam scheduled to arrive here, Wednesday.
Two travel agents, Destination Solomon’s and Travel Solomon’s, ran a workshop for three consecutive days to prepare their tour guides, drivers and ushers for the one day visit.
One of the tour guides Michelle Kasute’e said this workshop will help them to get ready in providing hospitality for the international visitors and other tours in the near future.
Speaking to Solomon Star, Destination Solomon’s officer Christopher Maelaua said that this is an opportunity to boost our tourism industry.
He said the tourists will visit historical venues at Kakabona, the National Art Gallery, and carvers will display their arts and crafts.
Karen Foimu of Travel Solomon’s said they have arranged prepaid tours for World War II sites in Honiara.
“The visitors will tour the World War II battle sites and monuments starting with US memorial at Skyline, Edson’s Bloody Ridge and Japanese memorial at Skyline during the day.”
She urged craftsmen and to come out and display their artefacts on venues being set up along the Honiara streets.
Foimua also called on the public to be friendly and offer a sense of hospitality to the visitors.
