Cappadocia celebrates honeymoon award

The Cappadocia region of Turkey is celebrating after Lonely Planet named it the Best Honeymoon Destination in its ‘Best in Travel 2014’ publication.

Lonely Planet’s authors, editors and online community have been captivated by Cappadocia’s famous balloon rides over its ‘fairy chimneys’ – the distinctive spikes of rock that litter the landscape in the region.

As well as being susceptible to erosion, the rock in the area is also easy to carve, and Cappadocia’s other main attraction is its collection of ancient cave dwellings, cut directly into the cliffs by ancient settlers.

‘It’s a region that shows yet another facet of fascinating Turkey – a country that has so much worth discovering; so perfect for couples embarking on a new life together,’ commented Dr Aysegul Gurgezoglu, director of the London-based Turkish Culture and Tourism Office UK, who received the award on behalf of Cappadocia at the World Travel Market last week.ADNFCR-408-ID-801659576-ADNFCR
