Would you consider a UK honeymoon?
Picture the scene. You’ve just said I do. You’ve probably danced your feet right off and been bought enough drinks to drown you. You’re at the sweet beginning of married life. All that’s left now is to board a plane to an exotic faraway land for your honeymoon.
That all sounds about right, right? Well what if that exotic land was traded in for a staycation? Before you shriek with horror – hear me out. A new survey has actually found that for many UK couples, honeymoons based in their home country are being seen as a more and more attractive option.
Obviously, the major appeal of this is saving money. The poll, which was commissioned by Sykes Cottages found that 62% of UK adults would consider a UK honeymoon, with financial reasons being cited as one of the biggest factors in choosing to honeymoon here.
Weddings are tiring too, the thought of a long-haul flight after a day, night, and you know what – months of being on your feet can seem like a bit of a chore. That’s why 23% of those surveyed said they would honeymoon in the UK to reduce travel time.
42% newly-weds expressing interest in a UK honeymoon desired an indulgent luxury break, whilst 41% of respondents fancied a coastal holiday. Other popular choices were countryside getaways, city trips and spa breaks.
“The honeymoon traditionally marks the start of a newly-married couple’s life together. While many of us still jet off somewhere exotic, it’s great to see that so many people consider the UK a viable option – and not just as a way of saving money,” said Tom Lowes of Sykes Cottages. “The dramatic landscapes of Scotland were a particularly popular backdrop to this exciting milestone in a new couple’s life. Luxury breaks were also very popular – and perhaps made all the more affordable for being UK-based.”
