Telegraph Travel Awards 2013: Best river cruise line

Scenic has grown rapidly since launching its first two vessels on the Rhine
and Danube five years ago. Today it has seven purpose-built “Space Ships”
that also cruise the Rhône and Saône, and operates a refurbished vessel on
the waterways linking Moscow and St Petersburg in Russia.

There is more to come in 2014, including the new 169-passenger Scenic Jade,
which will have sun-lounge-style balconies and an all-day café, and the
smaller Scenic Gem (128 passengers), which will be sailing new cruises on
the Seine in France. On top of that, Scenic is launching a new river cruise
company, Emerald Waterways, with two new vessels – Emerald Sky, which enters
service in April, and Emerald Star, which follows in June. Each will have an
open-air heated swimming pool that doubles as an indoor cinema area in the
evening, a sun-deck bar and four oversized Owners’ Suites equipped with
Nespresso machines, an iPad for use on board and a complimentary mini-bar.

Along with its most comprehensive river-cruise brochure to date, Noble
Caledonia, one of our runners-up, will release a new small-ship cruising
brochure in January, offering voyages to every continent and featuring 23
vessels . New and a little different is its cruise to Wrangel Island and the
Chukchi Peninsula.

On board its collection of four- and five-star vessels, meanwhile, Riviera
Cruises, favoured by Telegraph readers for its “family ambience”, now offers
10 itineraries to Europe and the Mekong – the latter on board the RV
Jayavarman and RV Mekong Prestige.
