Cruise along to travel expo

FOR anyone with the travel bug, jump aboard the latest trend of cruising.

“The growth in interest for cruises has been the most significant,” said Sheron Konig, manager of Escape Travel’s Mackay branch.

“Ocean cruises are growing in popularity now, and not just river cruises,” she said ahead of this weekend’s Travel Expo.

Many people preferred to go on a cruise, rather than fly internationally, Mrs Konig said.

“It gives people a better opportunity to relax and enjoy all the little places along the way to the final destination,” she said.

“There’s so much more to do on a cruise.”

Mrs Konig has just completed her cruise masters accreditation.

“I felt I had to, because there has been such a large interest towards cruises in recent years.”

Escape Travel’s Expo will be held at Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre (MECC) on Sunday from 9am to 4pm.

Mrs Konig said there were plenty of “travel wholesalers” attending to share information.

“About 28 distributors will be there,” she said,

“Each one will provide a presentation of their own.”

The Travel Expo is for anyone who has an interest in travelling.

“We want to encourage everyone to come along, even if they haven’t made any decisions,” she said.

As well as information presentations, there will be staff to assist with bookings.

Ms Konig said there were many options to travel the world and the Expo would give people a better insight into each option.

“There will be representatives from all angles of travel, including cruises,” she said.
