The reality show concept has hit the high seas, thanks to a cruise line that is letting the passengers call the shots when it comes to deciding where to sail.

Forget the captain, Fred Olsen Cruise Lines is launching a ‘You Choose The Next Port of Call’ voyage.

Our choice: Cruise passengers will be able to 'tell the captain where to go' on the new Fred Olsen voyage

The cruise company says it’s unusual new 15-night itinerary will allow guests to ‘tell the captain where to go’, as they vote for the next port of call during the journey.

Passengers on board the Braemar will be given two destination choices every 48 hours and will be asked to vote.

The first choice offered on the cruise will decide whether the ship makes for Vigo in Spain or Leixoes in Portugal.

Then choices after that will encompass a variety of Iberian ports of call, with guests choosing between Malaga and Gibraltar, Barcelona or the Costa Brava city of Palamós, Andalucian Cadiz or Portimão, in Portugal.

All ashore! Passengers head into their port of call

Explore ashore: Passengers will vote on their choice of destination every 48 hours so they can plot their own itinerary on the round-trip from Southampton

They will then decide their final port – Galician city of Ferrol in Spain or La Coruna – before heading back to Southampton.

The so-called ‘curiosity cruise’ will depart for the first time on October 10, 2015.

Nathan Philpot, sales and marketing director for Fred Olsen, said: ‘This incredibly exciting and innovative cruise gives our guests the chance to “steer the ship”!

‘We are always striving to offer our guests a special cruise experience and I think that I can say with some confidence that this is certainly a very different type of holiday. And with a host of warm and sunny Mediterranean destinations to choose from, guests on board this fun cruise will not be disappointed.’

Oh, this would be a treat! You would spend half your cruise arguing with each other was to where to go or having to listen to the constant bitching of those that didn’t get to go where they wanted. Thanks, but NO thanks.

Can’t see that. Surely berthing spots in ports have to be pre-booked. With charges paid and pilots made ready. There would need to be a heck of a lot of decisions taken prior to sailing to the chosen ports!!

Have you ever tried to make a committee decision? It’s the last thing I’d want for a holiday!

Most of Fred Olson’s passengers are so old they have no idea where they are anyway!

well they have to do something to halt their falling passenger numbers after numerous halted cruises due to bad hygiene on board.

Maybe the port with the cheapest berthing charges will always win
