Travel Tip: Bring Kids Free on These Cruises

I’m a big fan of cruising as a family experience, but it can get pricey. So a great way to save is to take advantage of “kids free” deals.

The way cruise lines work is that they charge per person, not per cabin. Unlike a hotel, they charge for kids sharing a room with their parents. Not always full price, but something.

So you want to look for promotions where cruise lines waive that fee.

Crystal Cruises lets kids 17 and under sail for free on some of its all-inclusive cruises.

MSC Cruises lets kids ages 11 and under to sail for free in the cabin with their parents.

Look for similar deals on Norwegian Cruise Line during the year—they’ll actually waive the fees for kids staying as the third through the eight guest in a cabin. That may require keeping one or two in the bathroom.

But—and this is a big but—do the math to make sure it’s a deal. Some cruise lines have been known to inflate adult fare to make up for lost revenue on kids. So compare per person rates before you jump on a promotional deal.
