Carnival Liberty cruise ends in St. Thomas
Carnival
Liberty guests whose cruise was interrupted by an engine-room fire were flown
home from St. Thomas on Tuesday when the ship did not receive clearance to sail
for San Juan by early evening.
In a
statement, Carnival said it used charter flights to transport most of the
ship’s 3,346 guests. Carnival had hoped to sail back to San Juan with guests
aboard, and dock there for the remainder of the cruise.
Carnival
said those on the cruise will receive a full refund and a 50% discount on a
future cruise, in addition to the $150 shipboard credit initially issued after the
fire.
No one was
injured in the Sept. 7 fire, which was extinguished by the ship’s automated
systems. Carnival said it now expects the Liberty to sail back to San Juan later
this week.
