3 Things Every Marina Should Have

A marina is like a floating garage for boaters and for those who love to sail, acting as a safe haven by offering a proper place to enter and exit the sea.  Generally, marinas are filled with docks and designated “parking” spots throughout.  These spots are usually leased out to boat owners as a place to store their boats while they are not in use. Because owners will be leaving their valuable sea vessels in the marina to be stored, it is essential to choose a good one with lots of different amenities. But what makes for a good marina?  Find out below as we discuss 3 things that every marina should have.

A Refueling Station

A refueling station is likely the most important thing a marina should have.  Traveling on the ocean by boat is nothing like traveling on the road by car.  On the road, there are gas stations every few miles, but consider the ocean.  Where do people fill up their tanks?  This is where a refueling station in a marina comes in very handy.  If there is a refueling station present, the boat owner can simply fill up before heading out for the day.  This makes ensuring you have a full tank easy and is a must have for a marina.

A Repair Facility

Next, having a repair facility on site at a marina is essential.  The reason for this is because if something goes mechanically wrong with your vessel while you are at sea, it could prove challenging to transport it a distance to a repair shop.  With a repair facility on site, all you would need to do is drive the broken vessel to the facility, or have another boat pull you there.  This way, there is no need to load up the boat and drive to a repair shop.   Instead, you can stay local and get it repaired right away.

Restaurants and Supply Stores

Lastly, a marina should have plenty of restaurants and supply stores. Consider how many people will frequent the marina during the summer months and holiday weekends.  Many of those people will be hungry after a long day at sea.  The same individuals would benefit from a supply store and over time will likely need essential items such as rope, sunblock, and life jackets.  It is incredibly handy to have fast and delicious food on the go when you are in a busy area like a marina, not to mention easy access to basic supplies.  This fact makes restaurants and other retail shops lucrative marina businesses.

There is no doubt that a good marina will have all of the things listed above.  If you own a boat and spend a lot of time at sea, it is highly likely that you will appreciate all of the extra amenities mentioned here.  It will also quickly become apparent how wonderfully convenient a refueling station, a repair facility, restaurants, and supply stores within your marina are, especially once you spend more time boating or sailing.  Be certain to look for these 3 things when choosing a marina.  You will be glad you did!
