Excellent Tourist Attraction in Shimla

Shimla is an extremely popular tourist destination in Himachal Pradesh, offering its traveller’s an astonishing view. Surrounded by lush green hills, pinewood trees and snow- capped mountains this leaves its tourists awestruck by the panoramic view it has to offer. Shimla, also known as the summer capital of British India, is well- known for its rich heritage of the Victorian- era architecture and the labyrinthine markets. Shimla has many beautiful places to visit such as the Shimla Christ Church, The Ridge, The Mall, Scandal Point, Shimla Heritage Walk and the Green Valley. Christ Church: The Christ Church in Shimla is an English church that opened way back in the year 1846. This church dominates the Ridge and is one of the oldest surviving church in northern India. The Christ Church is painted in a cream-lemon colour that is not very inspiring but the main features of this church are the Raj-era memorials and the typical Victorian stained glass that is one of a kind.

Viceregal Lodge Himalayan Bird Park: The Viceregal Lodge was a summer residence of the British viceroys that was completed in the year 1888. This place holds Henry Irwin’s grey-sandstone creation that resembles a cross between Harry Potter’s Hogwarts and a Scottish baronial castle. It today, houses the Indian Institute of Advanced Study which exhibits interesting photographs but the old ballroom and dining hall are now a library which is closed to visitors. The Viceregal Lodge is surrounded by beautiful gardens that make an enjoyable stroll. Opposite the lodge gate is the Himalayan Bird park, where you could spot a small collection of exotic birdlife, including the iridescent monal pheasant which is Himachal’s state bird.

The Ridge: The Ridge is a famous tourist attraction, situated in the heart of Shimla. The Ridge is the hub of all cultural activities of Shimla. It is situated along the Mall Road, which is also the most famous shopping centre of Shimla. Other important places of Shimla like the Lakkar Bazaar, mall, Scandal Point, Jakhoo hill, etc. are connected though the Ridge.

Shimla also offers adventurists the opportunity to try a few adventure sports such as trekking, white water rafting, skiing, ice skating, paragliding, horse riding and yak riding. Overall, Shimla is a wonderful destination that offers visitors a breath-taking panoramic view of its mesmerising surroundings.
