GENOA, Italy — Make that nine ships for luxury line Silversea Cruises.
The Monaco-based cruise company on Monday took delivery of its first newly built vessel in seven years, the 596-passenger Silver Muse.
Constructed at a Fincantieri shipyard in Genoa, Italy, Muse is being billed as one of the most luxurious cruise ships ever made. Aimed at an upscale audience, it boasts some of the biggest and most elegant accommodations at sea including four apartment-like, two-bedroom Owner’s Suites that measure 1,389 square feet.
Other over-the-top accommodations on Muse include four Grand Suites and two Royal Suites that measure 1,475 square feet and 1,130 square feet, respectively. The ship also has 34 of the line’s signature Silver Suites across three top decks, including a new two-bedroom Silver Suite configuration that measures 1,119 square feet.
Even the smallest cabins on the vessel measure a generous 400 square feet.
Muse also offers an unusually wide array of upscale eateries including La Dame, a French restaurant created in partnership with Relais Châteaux, and two contemporary Asian eateries.
Hot Rocks, a Silversea ship favorite where passengers cook their own meat, fish and vegetables on piping hot lava stones, also is among the dining options as is an intimate new jazz club-like venue called Silver Note where musicians will play as passengers sample tapas-style dishes.
At 40,700 tons, Muse is Silversea’s largest vessel to date and also serves as its new flagship.
Silversea is the third major luxury line to roll out a new ship in just the past nine months — an unusual spurt of growth for the luxury cruise space. Rival Regent Seven Seas Cruises in July unveiled its first new vessel in 13 years, the 750-passenger Seven Seas Explorer. Luxury line Seabourn in December unveiled its first new ship in five years, the 600-passenger Seabourn Encore.
Muse will sail from Genoa late Monday on a short, non-revenue “shakedown” cruise with company executives and travel industry professionals. Its first sailing with paying passengers kicks off April 10 in Monaco. The vessel will be christened in Monaco on April 19.
Muse’s inaugural year will feature a diverse range of seven- to 19-day sailings in Europe, the Caribbean, South America, the Middle East and Asia. Fares start at $4,455 per person for seven-night voyages.
