Where will Prince Harry and Meghan Markle go on honeymoon? The romantic destinations that could top the list
Just hours after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their engagement , the excitement surrounding the impending royal wedding is already in full swing.
Clarence House revealed that the couple are aiming for a spring 2018 wedding , so no doubt the loved-up duo will be in full wedding planning mode.
After the wedding comes the honeymoon – and while there are countless romantic destinations that are firm favourites with newlyweds , there are a few hotspots we think could be strong contenders.
After all, Prince Harry and his fiancée have already enjoyed a getaway or two together – and it could have given them major inspiration for the ultimate romantic break.
We take a look at the honeymoon destinations that could be on their radar…
1. Botswana, Africa
Prince Harry has often spoken about his love for Africa, and regularly visits Botswana as part of his role as patron of Rhino Conservation Botswana.
The couple have already enjoyed a romantic break there too, as earlier this year Harry whisked Meghan away on a three-week trip to the Meno a Kwena camp, just in time for her 36th birthday.
Staying in a luxurious tent overlooking the Boteti River, the pair’s
Botswana is clearly close to both of their hearts – in fact, Meghan’s engagement ring even features a diamond sourced from there.
And of course, Botswana would make for an idyllic romantic retreat; think sweeping landscapes at the Chobe National Park, countless wildlife to look out for on safari, and plenty of privacy in the luxury lodges and tents that can be found tucked away in the scenery.
2. The Norwegian Fjords
Norway was top of the list for Prince Harry and Meghan’s first couple’s holiday together, so it could be a poignant trip should they choose to return for their honeymoon.
The loved-up pair headed to Tromso on the Norwegian fjords for the getaway, where they’re said to have enjoyed a spot of whale watching and trips to the region’s breathtaking lakes.
Then of course there are the awe-inspiring Northern Lights to watch – but if the couple want to see them, they’d have to wait a few months for their honeymoon post-wedding to time it for the best possible views.
3. Italy
Meghan’s love for Italy was made clear after she enjoyed a girls’ trip with close friends to Amalfi Coast highlights including Positano , and a visit to the island of Capri.
The Suits star posted a host of snaps on Instagram offering fans a glimpse into her holiday – and continued to share some throwback photos later in the year as she reminisced about the views, food and culture she discovered on her trip.
Therefore, Italy could easily be on the couple’s radar for a honeymoon, and spring/summer will be the perfect time to go for the glorious sunshine and balmy temperatures.
Not to mention it’s a short flight away from the UK – and with both of them often travelling around the world, a short-haul break could make a welcome change.
4. Verbier, Switzerland
The royal family have long been fans of skiing holidays; both Princess Diana and Prince Charles took their sons there for a break, while Prince Andrew has a home in Verbier, Switzerland.
It’s there that Harry has repeatedly hit the slopes – and being joined by his new wife on their honeymoon could make it a truly spectacular trup.
However, the couple would have to wait for the ski season during the winter months, and with a spring wedding they might be tempted to head to sunnier climates instead.
5. Jamaica
The happy couple had a taste of the romantic atmosphere in Jamaica when they went to see Harry’s best friend and wingman Tom ‘Skippy’ Inskip tie the knot in Montego Bay .
With its white sand beaches, crystalline blue waters, lusciously green landscapes and seriously luxurious resorts, it’s hailed as a dream honeymoon destination – but whether it’s on Prince Harry and Meghan’s list is yet to be discovered!
