Ten years after the infamous Bali nightclub bombing, should tourists still be concerned about safety? Concerned, perhaps, but not paranoid, say industry experts. The 2002 Islamist attack, one of the first and deadliest aimed at Western tourists, killed 202 people and woke up the tourist industry to a host of new security issues. Tourism has since rebounded in Bali, after the government worked to improve safety, communication, medical facilities and emergency response. Travel alert and warning systems have also improved worldwide, and thanks to an abundance of internet resources, tourists have the ability to educate themselves about safety before they plan a trip, and make appropriate decisions.
