Metro Cruise Services to operate Brooklyn terminal

Metro Cruise Services has been awarded a four-year contract to operate the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal by the New York City Economic Development Corp.

The redeveloped terminal is one of three cruise ports in the New York harbor, along with facilities on Manhattan’s west side and in Bayonne, N.J.

Metro Cruise said the contract is the first time in its history it will provide marine terminal and stevedore services in the Port of New York.

In a statement, Metro Cruise said it would work with the New York City Economic Development Corp. to attract new tenants to the Brooklyn terminal while growing passenger counts for the existing tenants, Cunard Line and Princess Cruises.

Los Angeles-based Metro Cruise said it has expanded its presence on the East Coast with stevedore agreements in Boston with several cruise lines. It said the Brooklyn terminal is well positioned for special events, which it termed “a major portion of Metro’s business proposition for the terminal.”
