Telegraph Travel Awards 2013: Best small cruise line

The largest ship in the six-strong fleet, Seabourn
Odyssey
, carries just 450 guests and offers the largest spa on board a
luxury ship. Odyssey has since been joined by two identical sisters,
Seabourn Sojourn (in 2010) and Seabourn Quest (in 2011). Seabourn Pride,
Seabourn Spirit and Seabourn
Legend
are virtually identical, with just over 100 suites apiece. The
line’s destination-led itineraries appeal as much to those with a sense of
adventure or a taste for the exotic as those seeking stylish sun and sea
cruise holidays. New for next year is “extended explorations” – longer
cruises that include more time for exploring ashore.

Far from resting on its laurels, Silversea, one of the runners-up , began
seven-night island-hopping cruises in the Galapagos in September and next
year will be adding guided expeditions in the Pacific and south-east Asia.

The other runner-up, Hurtigruten, has 11 working ships, at least half of which
ply the Norwegian coast at any one time on a route that is proving immensely
popular with UK cruisers. Latterly Hurtigruten has taken its
“coastal-hugging philosophy” further afield, to Antarctica, Greenland and
Spitsbergen, where it offers voyages to some of the most dramatic coastlines
on the planet.
